FILM ‘WAVES APART’ EXPLORES ANTISEMITISM IN SURFING
My role in Waves Apart was as a co-producer with Aslan Dalgic. The 24 minute documentary was made as our senior thesis project at the University of California and went on to the festivals listed below including the Emerging Filmmakers Showcase at Cannes and the 2022 Student Academy Awards®.
The film explores the history of anti-semitism and localism in surf history told through director Josh Greene's eyes, a Jewish surfer from San Clemente.
Although at the time I didn't have a personal connection to the material, the experience taught me crucial skills in documentary filmmaking producing and interviewing . It also pushed me towards a love of surfing I found while traveling.
THE WAVES APART FESTIVAL CIRCUIT
As our first short film submitted to festivals, we were absolutely thrilled to see Waves Apart go to 19 festivals and counting, especially as a nominee at the 2022 Student Academy Awards® and winning best documentary at the Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at Cannes Film Festival.
